Mid-Century 7UP Cooler Crate
Heads Up 7UP! This fantastic 7UP vintage cooler has arrived!
We all know the story behind Coca-Cola, but did you know that the original 7UP formula was called "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda". Yes, “Lithiated” meaning Lithium Citrate, a compound used to treat depression and bi-polar disorders. This soda having rolled out 2 weeks before the Wall Street Collapse in 1929, a product that could “lift the mood” was a good seller. The soda changed its named to 7up in 1936 and contained Lithium Citrate up until 1948.
This Ca. 1960 wooden cooler sports a more wintergreen backdrop than the current labels and the earlier square of red with yellow font color. The inside is galvanized metal; note the photoed label which represents a Pittsburg steel manufacturer “Wheeler”. They rolled out their new product “SofTite” a coated galvanized metal in 1953 and changed names with a merger in 1968 so this crate is likely from that timeframe. If you plan on using it for storage, there is plenty of room for all your items to fit inside this massive crate. Let this authentic shabby chic piece serve you in style and function!
