Pair of Art Glass Cabinet Doors - Dogwood and Daisy

$2,190.00

Arched Beveled Glass, Double Acid-Etched, Wheel-Cut, Victorian Cabinet Doors - a mouthful and a visual treat! These glass panels are fine examples of such handicraft associated with the medium.

First, a thick piece of plate glass is cut to the desired silhouette, then its edges are hand beveled to achieve a sharp perimeter.

Second, various tones of acid-etching in the stencil work are achieved by layering the etching process over each other; making subsequent layers more opaque then the last. Leaving it with the equivalent to a sandblasted texture.

Third, craftsman then go in using a stone-headed wheel with which they carve the glass with all kinds of embellishments. There are different heads for different effects: for example, a Puntie Wheel makes all the perfectly concave circular motifs a.k.a. “punties”.

Lastly, once the cuts are made, they are smoothed with polishing powders and a felt wheel.

Whether they are put back into use as cabinet doors, used as booth divides, or simply hung in a window, one will surely appreciate their delicate play with light.
