The Owl Drug Company San Francisco Milk Glass Cosmetic Jar (no lid)

$60.00

This early 1900s cold cream jar in beautiful milk glass features the iconic emblem of an owl perched on a mortar and pestle emblazoned with TODCO, standing for The Owl Drug Company. While personally we would not want a bird of prey compounding our medicines for sanitary and precision of dosage reasons, it is quite a charming image nonetheless!

The Owl Drug Company was established in 1892 in San Francisco and soon spread across the country, selling medicines at cut-rate prices as well as cosmetics, perfumes, candies, and other household goods. Glass bottles and jars featuring the owl emblem were manufactured beginning in 1903, and are highly sought after by many collectors.

This jar features an owl with only one wing and a bit of tail visible, and the text surround identifies this as being from San Francisco, CAL. Jar does not have lid. See photos for condition details.
