Ca. 1860s Roulette Table - Mason & Co.
This bootleg beauty was built in the mid 1800’s by Mason & Co, a gambling supply manufacturer out of Denver, CO. Legend has it, the table was owned and operated in Wyoming illegally, until it was confiscated in the 1920’s. The local judge who took it away allegedly continued to use the table in his own basement as a part of an illicit gambling operation of his own!
The brass pin was later taken out by the owners at some point to make it “inoperable” in caution of federal crackdowns on illegal gambling operations after being in the family for generations. The pin has not been replaced, which makes it legal for a non-authorized party to own it.
The table arrived to us completely disassembled after being stored for decades. We were able to reassemble it, with all parts save the dividers and the brass pin which would make it operational. We have not replaced the pin to keep it in its original condition, and to ensure we ourselves are not accused of any under the table operations of our own!
This piece of Americana history is loaded with charm including inscriptions on the underside and some wear and tear to the top as photoed.
