It’s hard to imagine now, in our world of generic touch screen tap-to-pay kiosks, that there was once a time when shops displayed their ostentatiously ornamented cast brass or nickel-plated cash registers like gleaming holy relics or jewel boxes.
It is even harder to imagine someone designing a drawer pull for such a cash register-
that is shaped like a little cat-man-devil-
who also is a caricature of their boss-
-and that drawer pull is put into production and applied to some of the fanciest cash registers used across America.
Did anyone think this was weird? And what was that designer implying about John Henry Patterson, the owner of National Cash Register Company?
We don’t have answers, but we are delighted. This drawer pull is an authentic piece of hardware from an original National Cash Register device and has a well-worn nickel finish that has exposed the brass quite appealingly across the face. Give this lil’ kitty cat man a home in your heart!
