Marquetry & Cast Iron Accent Table
This table is here to show off and it does just that! The top is made using a technique called Marquetry- a style of woodworking that goes back to ancient times. By using different veneers, the artist can create various patterns and images with wood. After being popularized in Europe during the 17-19th century, it remains a popular form of wood working art today. As a base the maker used an ornate cast iron pedestal base that was most likely a piece of an old bar stool.
