Jacob Ruppert was a first generation American whose parents immigrated from Germany. His father, Franz, starting malting and brewing in 1845 and in 1850 started The Turtle Bay Brewery in New York. Jacob worked alongside his father from an early age, and by 1867 he was helping to manage the entire business. He soon branched off and opened his own Jacob Ruppert Brewery. He owned and operated the brewery along with his other business ventures until his death in 1915. After Jacob Sr.’s death his son Jacob Ruppert Jr. became president of the company. The brewery ended its journey in 1965 when it closed its doors permanently. The company sold the land which would become Ruppert Yorkville Towers to pay tribute to the famous brewery.
