Howell Spring Lounge Armchair set
This pair of lovely chairs with chic oxblood-red upholstery and steel cantilever frames were made ca. 1931-1939, and are unbelievably comfortable. They have just enough spring for you to lounge and recline in late deco style.
Howell Co. opened in 1867 in Geneva, IL as William Howell’s Iron Foundry, and moved to St. Charles, IL in 1937. By that time, the company had transitioned from making irons to making steel furniture. The company, ahead of the curve (pun intended), was the very first business in America to hire Wolfgang Hoffman, son of renowned Austrian architect Josef Hoffman and Bauhaus-trained designer, to style their first modern outdoor line. The company manufactured a variety of styles, but focused on many cantilevered chair designs. These two chairs are a stunning example of their quality work.
Priced for set of two chairs.
