Founded in the 19th century, Heywood Wakefield was a pre-eminent manufacturer of American furniture in the commercial and residential sphere. Touted as America’s oldest furniture factory, the Gardner Massachusetts location was one of 7 factories that employed over 5,000 people at the peak of their operations. The shift to rattan furniture happened in the late 19th century and it continued to trend through the 1950’s with the company’s focus on trend-setting designs. This phenomenal set is a 1920’s dream and includes a sofa, as well as two chairs. All of the pieces have their original paint coating intact and in good condition with some minor age/use wear. A brass manufacturer plate is still attached to the smaller chairs (see images) and all of the original springs and seat fabric are intact and in good/fair condition. The larger deck chair features an arm pocket for books and magazines. This set is an amazing find for the die-hard Deco enthusiast.
