H Boker and Co 12 Inch Bent Trimmers
What better way to send a message than a 12 inch antique steel pair of scissors?
What is that message you ask? That you love sewing of course! Or perhaps that it’s time to cut ties. Or maybe that it’s opening day on your new shop and the ribbon is cut! We don’t endorse any other more frightening ideas.
These bear the markings of H. Boker & Co, a family of knife makers dating back to the 1600s! This pair of bent trimmers, meant for tailors or other textile cutting, probably dates to no later than 1920, is made of solid steel with worn japanned handles, and bears the name of the American branch of the company, which was established circa 1840 and which imported from the family’s Solingen factories until tariff increases and demand encouraged the company to start manufacturing in the US around the 1890s.
