Early Cutler MFG. CO. Brass Mail Chute

Sold Out

Salvaged from the 1906 Governors Building on SW 2nd & SW Stark in downtown Portland, this piece has seen many iterations of the historic building set for demolition. Cutler Manufacturing Company was based in Rochester New York, like many turn of the century American manufacturing companies. James G. Cutler patented the “mail chute” system in 1883 and sold these under the Cutler MFG CO until 1909 when they switched to Cutler Mail Chute Company. While 1909 isn’t much for East Coaster’s, it is an early piece for Oregonians, making this mail chute relic of early government and industrialization on the west coast. Let this piece of Portland history shine in your home, office or lobby to bring old-world analog charm to any space.

We have custom-built a mount and backing made of reclaimed oak from old church pews. Please inquire for more detailed dimensions on the chute without the mount if needed.
