F.A. Meanea Western Saddle, circa 1890
Since Frank A. Meanea (1849–1928) took over his uncle’s company in 1868, the business quickly rose to the status of premier saddlery maker. Even today, F.A. Meanea Saddle Company of Cheyenne, Wyoming, are world famous for their high-quality, durable saddles. He began using his own "F.A. Meanea" stamp in 1883, often using "Cheyenne, W.T." (Wyoming Territory) for earlier models and "Cheyenne, WYO" post-1890. This saddle with its clearly stamped “Cheyenne WYO“ and Art Nouveau inspired floral designs dates sometime in and after 1890.
