Cast Iron Architectural Cherubs
Reminiscent of the cemetery iconography popularized in the late 18th century, the cherub’s head nested between two wings symbolizes divine wisdom and justice; the cherubim are the guardians of the Tree of Life and sacred places. These beautiful and heavy cast iron cherubs were salvaged from a Rhode Island hospital and date to the second half of the 19th century. They show evidence of wear from exposure, but still retain beautiful detail in their faces and wings.
