Square 8x8 tile marked Batchelder Pasadena featuring a knight approaching a castle on horseback. Glazed in a pale blue engobe process, common for Ernest Batchelder’s early designs, this tile would have been covered in a thin colored clay slip and then the excess wiped away, to allow the tiles to have a soft, natural look as though carved from stone.
