You may associate Day-Glo paint with blacklight posters and the psychedelic art of the 1960s, but these pigments actually came decades before! As early as the 1930s, the Switzer brothers were pioneering what would become the name brand Day-Glo pigments.

These special colors, which not only glow fluorescent under UV lights, but also seem to vibrate with supernatural brightness even in daylight, were a pet project turned entire industry for the Switzer brothers. By the ‘40s their company, Switzer Bros. (creative naming, right?) was targeting advertisers and businesses who would benefit from the eye-catching brighter-than-life colors.

This set of paperboard signs is of that era, featuring designs that mimic the style of hand-lettered, brush painted signs popular at the time, for a fraction of the price.
